T&B Planning prepared the wildly successful Pennsylvania Wilds Design Guide for Community Character Stewardship. This exciting, complex project entailed the preparation of a detailed document that sets forth recommended design standards for the 121⁄2-county Pennsylvania Wilds. This project required understanding of Pennsylvania’s planning and environmental issues, government structure, political atmosphere, and the region’s environmental sensitivities, cultural assets, and community character. T&B Planning worked with the Pennsylvania Wilds Planning Team, an advisory group of county planners, regional economic development and heritage organizations, local government associations, tourist promotion organizations, and other stakeholders that, among other objectives, was organized to help communities capitalize on the economic potential of the Pennsylvania Wilds Initiative, while keeping the region unique, attractive, and true to its authentic and historic community character.
Distributed to the public in September 2007 and awarded a 2008 American Planning Association, Pennsylvania Chapter Merit Award in “Excellence in Planning: Best Practice”, the Design Guide discusses issues pertinent to both public agencies and private developers and investors. Guidelines address regional design themes, implementing best practices for a variety of land uses, lessening the impact of intrusive development, and complementing the landscape.
